I spent six years designing sand molds. The part I liked most was testing them.
Hi, I’m Ran, a designer in Vancouver, originally from Tokyo. I studied Information Design at university, then spent six years as a mechanical design engineer, designing sand molds for prototypes, running casting simulations on them, and strength analyses on products in development. In 2026 I moved to Vancouver to study digital marketing, and now I build websites and content for small businesses and nonprofits.
The work turned out to be the same. Make something, test it, and change what didn’t hold. That is what I like about design.
Experience
